Before it was Plaza Suite Resort, the 1870 building at 620 South Peters served as one of New Orleans’ earliest firehouses. Although you won’t get to slide down a vintage fireman’s pole when you come, you can tell that the sitting area off the Fulton Street entrance once served as an entryway for firetrucks.
Plaza Suite Resort first opened its doors as a timeshare in 1996 and additional phases followed. The hotel currently has 38 luxury suites with two opulent penthouses and four charming suites with balconies.
The Plaza Suite Experience
On the way to your suite, you’ll pass through marble hallways with exposed brick and plaster walls. Once inside, you’ll find European furnishings, unique artwork, fully equipped kitchens with granite countertops, cozy dining areas, and spacious living rooms with flat-screen TVs.
The penthouses and balcony suites feature private outdoor Jacuzzis and sitting areas that look out over the fun on Fulton Street Mall, a one-block pedestrian-only thoroughfare with some of New Orleans’ most popular restaurants and music clubs. (Cool trivia: Fulton Street was the site of the main entertainment promenade for the 1984 World’s Fair). Today Fulton Street is home to Fulton Square, which hosts concerts and special events such as “Miracle on Fulton Street” during the holidays. And it’s all just across the street from the fun and excitement of Harrah’s Casino and within easy walking distance of New Orleans’ top attractions including the French Quarter, the Aquarium of the Americas, the National World War II Museum and the New Orleans streetcar line. Meeting goers and tradeshow attendees are just steps from the New Orleans Convention Center.
